Introducing Darcy Anderson | Honoree for The 20 Of 2020 Award Ceremony (Copy)

Darcy Anderson

We are so excited to introduce the next honoree, Darcy Anderson, with Tinkertopia! Tinkertopia is a creative re-use center located in downtown Tacoma. The business was founded by Darcy Ann Anderson and her husband RR Anderson. Tinkertopia™ promotes a definitive sense of planetary resource conservation working with local industries to divert safe + clean remnants, seconds, scraps, off-cuts, discards, misprints, and overstock from the waste stream, then redistributing these goods as low-cost arts & crafts supplies.

When COVID-19 brought a shutdown to gatherings “Miss Darcy” had to pivot their party space and adapt some out-of-the-sandbox thinking. While eco-croft parties for kids and bulk bag purchases had long been a standard in the shop, Miss Darcy had to think of new ways to extend the educating and inspiring children beyond their walls to an at-home experience. Curbside service for bulk bags was just the beginning.

A new need was emerging quickly. Parents and children now found themselves deeply engaged in each other’s lives. Miss Darcy's creative mind came to the rescue. Tinkertopia has created a variety of homespun kits that engage, educate, and create fun. The Do-It-Yourself Monster Sewing Laboratory Kit and Scribble-Bot Art Droid Kit are just a couple that is a big hit with kids. Other kits are aimed at young and old alike, such as Grand Dad’s Junk Drawer Starter Kit, and Tacoma Rocks Painting Kit. And for the young hipster in our life, there’s the Tacomic Underground Cartooning Kit, and the LOL Cats in a Can Kit.

We can't wait to hear more Darcy and their creative ideas!
