Introducing Edouardo Jordan | Honoree for The 20 Of 2020 Award Ceremony
Edouardo Jordan
Introducing our next honoree of the 20 OF 2020 Awards, Edouardo Jordan!!! Chef Edourado Jordan is no stranger to receiving awards, but he is so much more than these accolades. He has a deep-rooted desire to aid and support his community.
In March of this year, when we all first felt the effects of the lockdown, things were critical for people in the restaurant industry. More than 417,000 restaurant workers lost their jobs -that's nearly 60% of all job losses, as many restaurants and bars shut their doors due to government mandates.
Chef Jordan immediately pivoted his business model and converted Salare into a community kitchen to provide free meals and toiletries to laid off or struggling restaurant workers, partnering with celebrity chef, Ed Lee, founder of the Lee Initiative's Restaurant Relief Program. From March to August 2020, Salare served more than 26,000 free meals to those in need.
While Chef Jordan worked with several nonprofits, like FareStart, World Central Kitchen, The Lee Initiative, Byrd Barr Place, Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle and Capitol Hill Housing to help feed the community during this pandemic, this is just a portion of the generosity and support he gives to the community at all times.
In 2019, he launched his annual fundraising event, The Soul of Seattle, which supports local Black-owned restaurants and businesses, as well as nonprofits that empower youth of color in Seattle. To learn more about this event please visit theseattlesoul.com
