This week my son, Andrell, will head back to Florida State University where he is studying linguistics, specifically Russian and Italian. He has been with us since the end of May and we have enjoyed every moment. I am sure that he is looking forward to returning to his routine, friends, and of course Big 8 – the drumline at FSU.
When he first went off to college we were still living in Florida and it was heart breaking. While I was so proud of him, he was so far away and I would not get to see his great smile on a daily basis. I am not sure if it is because Andrell has been a part of my life for more than half my life, having been such a young mom, or if every mom feels this way when her child goes to college. I have a feeling it is the latter though.
This summer Andrell picked up two jobs and did some additional work for a company in Edmonds, which amazes me as he was here for only a couple months and essentially landed three jobs! We are fortunate to live in an area with many opportunities.
So, this week as Andrell heads back to the Sunshine State and a begins another year, another year closer to adult life and away from the nest, I cannot help but think of the times that we had doing fun things together when he was little and maybe I wish I had worked a little less this summer and spent a little more time doing outdoorsy things with him.
I know school starts a little later on the West Coast, so I hope in the weeks ahead I will hear from some fellow moms about how they are doing.
Here are some photos from this past year together and one from Freshman Year.

As a Buyer’s Specialist, I dedicate 100% of my time and energy to helping home buyers make their dreams come true. In our experience, many agents rely mostly on the multiple listing service – we recognize that with the often limited inventory in our area, this will not necessarily be enough to find the best candidates for our clients.
