What is a rambler???
I looked up the definition of rambler and found that it could be a wanderer, one who walks through the streets OR a climbing rose with red or white blossoms. A Nash Rambler is a type of automobile. Quickly looking for a definition I read nothing about a single story home – which is exactly what I am looking for!
A rambler house, here in the Great Northwest is a single family home, also referred to as a “Ranch” style house in some areas. According to ask.com ramblers were first built in the 1920s, is known as a “low-profile” home without a lot of bells and whistles and is said to be linked to the tract housing boom which started in the 1940s through the 1970s.
Rambler style homes are popular with some home buyers because of everything being on one level. Many buyers appreciate having all of the bedrooms on the same level of the family areas and also like not having to contend with going up and down stairs.
Rambler homes are very hard to find in more densely populated areas because in order to have all of the square footage of the home on one level, you need a greater footprint. A footprint is the outline of the total area that is needed of ground surface to build a home. If you are looking for a two story home, or any multi-level home that has 1,800 square feet if you build a two story home, each level can be 900 square feet and therefor, depending on the zoning, not require as much land to build the home than is needed for a 1,800 square foot home on one level. In more populated areas, more housing can be built for more people when building up as opposed to out.
Presently I have two clients that would love to find a rambler – one is pretty flexible as to where it is, they are looking for most areas in South Snohomish County (Lynnwood, Edmonds, Brier, Mountlake Terrace, Everett, Bothell, and Mill Creek) and the other is looking for a Rambler specifically within the boundaries of Edmonds-Woodway High School. Do you know someone who has been thinking of selling a home that is in these areas? Chances are we have a buyer! Call me at 425-971-8865 if you have a house you are interested in selling.
This client is looking for something that is around 1,500 square feet or larger with a 2 car garage and a good sized master bedroom. If you know of someone with a house to sell that fits any of this criteria, please let me know.
